SGV International Tax and Transaction Services (ITTS) Associate Director Atty. Gerald Roxas, from Tax Partner Cecille M. Santillan-Visto’s cluster and formerly from Strategy and Transactions (SaT), was a guest speaker on DZMM Radyo Patrol 630’s Panalong Diskarte segment on 14 September 2025 to discuss Financial Literacy 101 and share his inspiring life journey.
A former Iskolar ng Bayan, Gerald recounted his experience as a Typhoon Yolanda survivor, when his family lost their business and he had to pause his studies at UP Tacloban. Moving to Manila, he was sponsored by UP alumni and later earned his Accountancy degree. He eventually became both a CPA and a lawyer, placing Top 3 in the 2024 Bar exams. He also worked while pursuing his law degree during the pandemic, proving that perseverance and support can lead to success.
Gerald advised young professionals to live simply, avoid credit cards to prevent overspending, and delay purchases to ensure they are well-considered. He emphasized keeping a modest lifestyle even as income grows, focusing on personality and confidence over status symbols. “You gain courage through knowledge and experience,” he said, encouraging the youth to stay patient, embrace learning, and remain open to new perspectives.
